Give the Gift of Employee Engagement During the Holidays

Give the Gift of Employee Engagement During the Holidays

Though the holiday season can be a joyous one, it also can be a frenzied one, especially for your employees. In fact, Healthline found that 62% of employees feel either ‘very stressed’ or ‘somewhat stressed’ around the holidays. Employees’ overwhelming holiday to-do lists heighten personal distractions and worries – dragging down productivity, morale and overall satisfaction in the workplace. How can you combat holiday stress and keep your work environment humming along through the new year?

The best practice to keep employee engagement high and stress levels low is to proactively tackle the issue around Thanksgiving, when—let’s face it—employees’ stamina begins to weaken. But don’t worry, even as the days of December quickly pass by, it’s not too late!

Here is a list of five holiday-themed engagement concepts to keep your employees focused during the holiday season:

A cookie recipe swap

Time to dust off Grandma’s cookbook! Have employees make one holiday treat and bring it into the office on a designated day to share their creations. The best part? Include all the recipes in one document to share with the group or even send it out to your families or friends!

Host a community service event

Find a local non-profit in the area which your team can help support during the holidays. Most regions have toy drop-offs, gift-wrapping sessions or even volunteer events. Nothing is better than giving back during the holidays!

Holiday-themed meetings

Who will wear their ugliest holiday sweater? Who can finish the holiday carol the fastest? A simple themed staff or team meeting can help spread holiday cheer in the workplace. Play a game, host trivia or organize a Pollyanna – the more the merrier!

Superlatives

Acknowledge individual and group successes. As the year comes to an end, this serves as a great opportunity to reflect on achievements within your organization. Put a unique and creative twist on these accomplishments by tagging superlatives on employees!

Discuss goals for 2017

If you haven’t done so already, December serves as a great time to think, plan and assign goals to your employees. Form a 30-minute brainstorm session during lunch or during a team breakfast to get employees motivated for the year to come!

We’ll let you slide when it comes to last-minute holiday shopping, but don’t let your employees’ motivation levels fall behind!
